Il CT della Grecia Dimitris Itoudis non è un grande sostenitore del roster a 12 per le nazionali nelle competizioni internazionali, a due settimane dall’inizio di Eurobasket 2022.
Itoudis, come gli altri allenatori, si sta preparando a effettuare gli ultimi tagli in vista dell’Europeo e scegliere i “famosi 12”, ma vorrebbe avere più flessibilità e la possibilità di un roster più ampio. “La regola va cambiata, sarebbe importante, dovremmo avere 14 giocatori a roster per i tornei FIBA sempre. La pandemia per fortuna sta passando, il livello dei tornei è alto come mai prima e poi ci sono gli infortuni e la fatica. E non giusto che una squadra finisca con 11 giocatori perché qualcuno si è fatto male, e non c’è una ragione per cui non possiamo avere 14 giocatori a roster. Anni fa, nel 2000, c’erano roster da 10 giocatori in Eurolega, oggi sono 12. Portiamoli a 14“.
Le nazionali che parteciperanno a Eurobasket 2022 stanno sfoltendo i propri roster tra un’amichevole di preparazione e l’altra. Ha generato discussioni ad esempio l’esclusione di Milos Teodosic dalla Serbia, voluta e spiegata da coach Pesic come necessità visto il ruolo ridotto che la star della Virtus Bologna avrebbe avuto in squadra all’europeo.
Al momento, tra infortuni, tagli e forfait, il gruppo di oltre 40 giocatori NBA potenzialmente presenti all’Europeo si è ridotto a 30.
