Una delle stelle NBA che è più vicina alle tematiche del razzismo e della disuguaglianza sociale che persiste fra bianchi e neri è Steph Curry, leader dei Golden State Warriors.
Il numero 30 dei Dubs ha preso anche attivamente parte alle manifestazioni che sono seguite nell’ultimo mese negli States dopo la morte di George Floyd. I fatti di Minneapolis, infatti, hanno scosso profondamente le coscienze dei cittadini americani e soprattutto della comunità afroamericana che sembra aver raggiunto un punto di non ritorno in quanto a tolleranza verso episodi simili.
Curry nella giornata di ieri ha fatto una chiacchierata insieme a Charles Barkley per parlare di come anche gli afroamericani ricchi non siano esenti da certe situazioni. Questo razzismo strisciante porta a far vedere i neri facoltosi come una sorta di anomalia nella società.
“Gli uomini neri ricchi e di successo vengono visti come della anomalie” ha sostenuto Curry. “Vedono allo stesso modo anche la nostra intelligenza e le nostre possibilità economiche. E’ frutto di un pregiudizio e di un razzismo che sono striscianti”.
“Se un’altra persona bianca sentisse questa posizione, penserebbe la stessa cosa. Si tratta di cambiare la propria prospettiva. E fare in modo che tutti siano responsabili di quello che dicono che sia in una conversazione privata, in un tweet o in un video. Qualunque cosa sia, che si faccia la cosa giusta e che si veda ogni persona allo stesso modo”.
Tuttavia, in seguito Barkley ha sottolineato come diventare ricchi sia uno dei modi che i neri hanno a disposizione per farsi rispettare. “L’assunto che i neri ricchi e famosi vengono trattati allo stesso modo di quelli poveri non è vero. Siamo trattati meglio”.
L’obiettivo dell’ex giocatore dei Phoenix Suns è quello di riuscire a dare un’opportunità di raggiungere il successo anche ai bianchi ed ai neri poveri. “Il punto alla fine è questo. Dato che sono sulla stessa barca, come possiamo fare in modo che i neri ed i bianchi poveri possano avere un’opportunità di fare un salto economico. Questo è quello a cui l’America deve dare una risposta”.
Per Barkley, quindi, la possibilità di avere un’agiatezza economica è uno dei canali principali per superare il razzismo di cui sono vittime tante persone. Razzismo, che, per Curry non sfuma completamente, ma rimane strisciante e comunque presente.
Forse la soluzione che l’America deve cercare, ma in generale tutti i Paesi, non è quella di trovare più opportunità perché i poveri diventino ricchi. Ma riuscire nell’intento di estirpare la piaga del razzismo alla radice. Anche in questo caso è una questione di punti di vista.
