DeMarcus Cousins non c’è la fatta. I suoi 37 punti con 16 rimbalzi non sono bastati ai Kings per avere la meglio sugli Spurs. A guastare la festa ci hanno pensato due spallate alla partita di Leonard e Aldridge: il primo ha propiziato un parziale di 16-2 con Sacramento in vantaggio di 9 punti, il secondo ha chiuso la partita dopo un parziale di 12-2 dei californiani. Il risultato finale è quindi 102-94 per i texani.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING JOERGER
Sul trono del Re dal 2012 si sono avvicendati ben sei allenatori diversi. Joerger ha tutte le carte in regola per stare seduto a lungo, a partire dal suo rapporto con Cousins:
“Joerger’s been great. I think what he brought to the team is what this team needed. It fits our identity more than how we played in the past. Not to knock any of the previous situations but I think this situation fits this team the best.”
Le parole di boogieman fanno presagire tante cose buone. I risultati si vedono in campo: gli Spurs hanno fatto davvero tanta fatica a vincere questa partita perchè i Kings erano finalmente organizzati. Ciascuno dei 10 giocatori scesi in campo ha giocato almeno 10 minuti: la fiducia del coach verso un roster si vede anche da questi dettagli. Joerger parla così dei suoi:
“I didn’t really do anything special other than try to be yourself. I think if you try to be somebody else that’s always a problem. Players can always see right through that so just be yourself, what you’re trying to do, how we’re trying to build it for the future of our team this season and going out for future years.”
MANCANO ANCORA 80 PARTITE
80 partite sono un’enormità, vero. È vero anche che questi Kings sono in fase di rodaggio e che può cambiare ancora molto in fase di mercato. L’impressione è che se Vivek Ranadivè, proprietario dei Kings, non inseguirà altre chimere come la difesa a 4 ma si fiderà del suo coach, questa squadra potrà togliersi delle soddisfazioni. Già qualificarsi per i playoff sarebbe un traguardo eccezionale, un piccolo passo per diventare grandi. C’è tanta concorrenza per quegli otto posti ad Ovest ma i Kings hanno dimostrato di potersela giocare con tutti.
