Dopo la stagione scorsa conclusa da prima testa di serie nella Western Conference, con una delle squadre più giovani e talentuose degli ultimi anni, adesso le aspettative per gli Oklahoma City Thunder sono sempre più alte. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Alex Caruso, Lu Dort, Jalen Williams, Isaiah Hartenstein, il GM Sam Presti è riuscito a creare un bel giocattolo negli ultimi anni, una contender in meno di 10 anni dall’ultima che Oklahoma City abbia visto.
Sam Presti, durante la conferenza stampa di apertura della stagione, ha però abbassato le aspettative per la sua squadra, cercando di placare quelle che sono le grandi attese per la stagione dei Thunder. Nessuna aspettativa, nessuna idea di ciò che potrebbe succedere e nessun preconcetto su come i giocatori nuovi si integreranno. Una lavagna perfettamente pulita e da riempire per l’allenatore Mark Daigneault. I dati verranno raccolti, e i Thunder non si scuseranno se disattenderanno le aspettative.
“Avremo bisogno di un po’ di tempo con questo gruppo, soprattutto perché non stiamo cercando di incastrare questi ragazzi o di avere preconcetti su come si combineranno tra loro i giocatori”, ha detto Presti a proposito dei nuovi arrivi di OKC. “Dobbiamo lasciare che le cose facciano il loro corso, e di conseguenza penso che non avremo molta continuità all’inizio”.
“Non pensiamo di avere il diritto di partire in terza base per la vittoria del titolo. Le aspettative esterne sono cose che alcuni pensano debbano accadere”, ha detto Presti, “Le possibilità sono cose che pensiamo possano accadere, ma abbiamo molto rispetto del fatto che sia così difficile che queste cose succedano”.
